What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?
Tony Berry Being bailed up by black marketeers in Sri Lanka and ushered down a dark alley where they threatened me with warnings to stop chasing the story on the shonky gem trade that I was pursuing for my newspaper back in London. Some scary moments.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Tony Berry Don't look back until you have reached the end.
Too many writers agonise over what they have written and don't even get beyond the first chapter because they keep on revising, polishing and generally worrying over it.
That all comes later when you have typed The End; that's when it is time to look back and revise, revise, revise.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Tony Berry As is often the case, from reading the daily paper. It's an endless source of ideas. So much of what goes on you simply couldn't dream up.

What are you currently working on?
Tony Berry Fifth book in the Bromo Perkins crime series ... currently about two-thirds of the way in. Time to start unravelling the web and finding whodunnit - and why.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Tony Berry Go for a long run - it clears the head, fresh ideas ping in ... and it gives me an appetite for dinner. Win-win.

Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?
Tony Berry In Ian Rankin's crime novels: John Rebus and Big Ger ... a beautifully drawn relationship between good and evil with mutual respect and an awareness of each other's goals, failings and ethics while each knows the main aim is to bring the other one down.
