Helping a movie star friend of mine search for a dead guy in a rural part of the country. Had we found him, well, it would’ve been something!

Once upon a time, my wife and I booked an exclusive hotel for the weekend for some much needed R & R. However, unbeknownst to either of us, that same hotel was hosting the semi-finals for the local tri-state junior high school cheerleading competition.

Ok. First question. I chose this genre (epic fantasy) because I’ve always enjoyed watching any movie that had dragons, or any other mythological creatures in it. Dragons are my favorite! 😃 Second question: I introduce new characters as I determine they are needed. If a scene calls for a new setting, or an encounter with new people, then I’ll create the character and introduce them into the story. And, if you’re curious, most of my characters are based off of real-life people. Third question: Challenges are fairyl easy for me to introduce, because I always envision myself in the character’s shoes and often find myself thinking, “wouldn’t it be funny/interesting if THIS happened next?” And finally, your last question: the answer to how to write a good arc for your story is to outline. Write everything down so there won’t be any confusion anywhere on the story. Plus, it’ll help you keep beats (interesting plot points) organized. So, get yourself a notebook and start plotting. What is your protagonist trying to accomplish? Is there an antagonist trying to prevent him/her from accomplishing that goal? Are there certain tidbits you’d like to include in the story? Jot them down so you don’t forget them. And my final bit of advice if you’re considering a career as an author: write. Write some more. Then, keep on writing. If you ever need a hand, or any advice, feel free to reach out to me. Thanks for your questions, Ben!

Hello Ben! I apologize in taking so long to get back to you. I just now noticed I had questions pending. You asked what drove me to write my books? Well, before I was a published author, I was a computer tech. I traveled extensively. Whenever I was back in my hotel, there wasn’t anything worthwhile to watch on television, so at my wife’s suggestion, I started writing a story. Every time I traveled out of town, I’d write a chapter or two on it. In this manner, my first book, The Prophecy (Bakkian Chronicles #1), was written. Afterwards, I enjoyed the sense of accomplishment, and reading the reviews from my fans, and kept the series going.

Which fictional world would I go to? My own, of course. I'd travel to Lentari, via portal, and assume my role as fire thrower!

Okay, but you have to take me. I will get Mikal to create my own jhorun. Just need to figure out what I would want. I am serious though, Lentari would definitely be my first choice. My second choice would be Krista Walsh' s Andvell in her Meratis and Cadis Trilogies, and third would be the Faerie Realm in Rachel Morgan's Faerie Guardian series. But, Lentari would be the place to be!

I have so many books on my To Read list that there will never be a time where I'm out of things to read. However, if there are any new Pendergast titles coming out, from Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child, then consider it read. :)

Hi, Gary! That particular story is a freebie (in PDF format) as an incentive for signing up for my newsletter. In case you weren't sent the welcome email, with a link to the story, send me an email at jmpoole(at)gmaildotcom and I'll send it out to you!
I also would like you to know that I received your message asking about the new mystery book being on Kindle only. I'm sorry about that. I've been talked into giving Kindle Unlimited a try. My plan is to give the story a wide release after its run on KU is finished.
I'll be on the lookout for your email!

Hi, Gay! That particular post is for the beta readers to chat, ask me questions, and give opinions on my latest book, A Portal for Your Thoughts. I generally will put out a call for beta reader volunteers as I get close to finishing a novel. Once I have my list of BRs then I'll create the password protected post and then give them all access to it.
I guess it's just me being paranoid and not wanting anyone to give away any plot details before I officially release the book. :)

The book I'm working on now was inspired by a dream, if you can believe that.
Good questions! Thx for stopping by!

By many things. My wife & I often chat about possible story lines. Many times I'll see (or read) something I like that inspires me to put my own variation on it. Then I ask myself how I could work that into a book and then make it happen.

I'm working on the 3rd novel in my Tales of Lentari series.

Write often. When you're ready to publish either find an editor or get another set of eyes to go through your book. If you're going to bare your soul to the whole world then you want to make sure your manuscript is as clean and error free as possible.

There's nothing better for me, as a writer, to hear from fans who have read your books and tell you how much they've enjoyed them. Knowing I've made complete strangers smile in many different countries is all the validation I need.

Writer's block, for an author, is inevitable. I've found that if I turn off my laptop and close my notebook (effectively putting Lentari on hold) for a while and walking away, I'll usually find my inspiration by doing something else. Catch up on my reading, or maybe a night of star gazing with my telescope, or perhaps an all-out session of Mario64 with my wife will usually clear away the cobwebs.
