Learn how to really write professionally. Read, read, read. Join writers groups, take writing classes, attend conventions with writers workshops, go to writers conferences. You can't learn to write playing computer games or watching movies and T.V. Find a mentor. Study English grammar or get a grammar checker.. Use aids like a dictionary, a thesaurus and Strunk and White's Elements of Style. You are going to get lots of criticism. Learn to separate the constructive from the unhelpful kind. Writing is rewriting over and over until you get it right. I worked on "The Star Of Jolanest" for 10 years more or less. If you write fiction start out with short stories and write one every week. Enter contests. Submit to small presses. Write letters to the editor. Write book reviews. Write articles. Get all the writing experience you can get. If you do self publish get a professional editor and cover illustrator as well as experienced beta readers. Writing for publication is work just like anything else.
