M. Lane Write something else. Something so far left from what I'm currently trying to do, even if it's just a paragraph that goes nowhere. Sometimes you'll trip over a twist of wordplay or a new character roster. Also reread what is written. Take the time to edit instead and hopefully by then, maybe I've reconnected with the baseline of the story.
M. Lane Critique is necessary. That includes brutal self-reflection as well. Don't be afraid to write something "bad" while developing your voice and writing style. Also, edit! Edit. Edit! Edit!
M. Lane That is a great question. Saying writers hear voices always sounds borderline like madness, so we switch it up and talk about our muses instead. Lol, personally I'll generally get inspired by one singular thought and start writing a scene and at times, it sweeps me off my feet.
M. Lane I'm in the process of editing a m/m billionaire/Mafia romance that focuses on the MC finding his own voice and understanding him self through dark past trials, and uncertain future pathways ahead. It's a love triangle theme for certain.
M. Lane Best thing has to be being a creator. It's the only thing out there, that I'm aware of, where you can be Cupid, an architect, a city planner and hear voices in your head conversing, and no one bats an eyelash when you say so.
