I actually did use a real-life mystery in my first published novel, Sara’s Search. One character came down with a strange medical condition which turned out to be the very rare one my daughter contacted back in 1985. Over a dozen doctors saw her before one recognized what she had because he’d seen it before. In the novel, it didn’t take that many to figure it out. I’m sure the readers appreciate that. And even though that all sounds rather grim, the novel is filled with quirky characters and humor

Autonomy. Uncertainty--whether you'll ever finish the current project and if it will be well received, which means you're never bored. Sometimes terrified, yes, but never bored. Most writers hate boredom.

A Tina Tale mystery set in Newport, RI, where I lived for a time and still love. Does Tina's friend have a ghost inhabiting her new home, an old Victorian? Or is there another reason for the strange noises and occurrences?
