Since I won't give any spoilers, I got the idea when a professor of mine said something. I'm in grad school and all it took was that one short sentence to send off plot alarms in my head. It was all I could do to pay attention for the rest of the class!

From my dad. He had a love of writing, although he gave after one rejection. He was good, too, so it's a shame. I think his desire encouraged me. That, and the fact that I was teased growing up (I'm from Australia and had (still have somewhat) an accent), so writing helped me keep to myself and make up worlds and people to live in them. It was a wonderful, if lonely, escape.

I think if someone is seriously enough about writing, then don't let anything stop you! Practice, take classes, join workshops, attend conferences and write...rewrite, edit and revise until it's as perfect as you think it can be.

I'm one of the lucky ones. I seriously never have writer's block. I do, however, sometimes have too many ideas, plots, stories going on at the same time, and that can be as bad as writer's block though.
