Before I start a novel, I must have a fresh idea that I am excited about. It can come within the story line itself, a interesting or exciting place, or a group of characters that I just can't wait to see how they interact. Once I start writing, however, inspiration can not be the driving force. I must discipline myself to sit down and write, day in and day out, whether I feel like it or not. Some days, inspiration truly raises its encouraging head and makes writing fun and exciting. On other days, inspiration has forsaken me, and only writing will bring it back.

The idea for Broken Allegiance (A Tom Kagan Novel), came from ten years supervising our gang investigations section for the Santa Rosa Police Department in California. Particularly, the case we titled "Operation Black Widow" (you can Google that name for more information).
