Exposing yourself to other's people's work is an absolute must - sometimes the solution another author comes up with in their own book will inspire you with a way to fix yours. But don't just limit yourself to that - get out there and take in as much of the world as possible! I get most of my ideas just by walking around London - visiting museums, watching films and reading articles all help take me out my current mindset and see things in a different light. The temptation is to focus harder on what you're currently working on, but sometimes turning away from it is better.

I've been much busier than usual recently! I'm working on three books which are out in the next year:
- CHRISTMAS DINNER OF SOULS, a collection of short festive horror stories (out November 2nd, Faber&Faber)
- SPACE TORTOISE, my next picture book with David Litchfield (out in 2018, Faber&Faber) about a tortoise trying to get to the stars
- and MAX & THE MILLIONS, my next MG novel, about a young boy who discovers a microscopic epic civilisation on his bedroom floor! (out March 2018, Faber&Faber/Wendy Lamb Books)
Apart from that, I'm working on doing lots more school events to meet new readers and currently putting together six (!!) new book ideas to submit to my publisher - hopefully one of them isn't too rubbish.
