Diana Anderson Lorena, Thanks for your question.
First question: Dark southern drama.
Second question: Because of my own life experiences, I started writing as a form of therapy. Each of my main female characters are flawed in some way because of an event or events in their past or events that take place during the novel, and how they strive to survive it, understand it, and overcome it.
I posted a blog earlier this week and talked about the subject. As I mentioned in that blog post, I hadn't really thought about it until a reader asked about a character in one of my novels who had become homeless. The reader assumed I must have experienced it to be able to write it so convincingly. I was glad that it had moved the reader in such a way. I told him that there were times in my life when I had been homeless. His question had me pondering on the many troubles my main characters face, and I realized that each of them are a part of me. My heart is drawn to victims of child abuse and domestic abuse, sexual assault and rape, the homeless, and those who've suffered disaster and have lost everything.
Thank you again for your interest and the questions. In case you're interested in reading more on the subject, the link to the blog post I mentioned is below. It's a short read.

Diana Anderson I go for a long drive down some Mississippi back roads. Usually during that drive I get ideas for the next novel or for the next scene I'm writing.
