I go for long walks. I walk past the point of wanting to turn back so that way I end up stuck with myself for longer than planned. That seems to be when the ideas come.

My soul sings when I'm writing.

It's important to read a lot in order to improve your writing skills. Once you've done that, set achievable goals to help you get your thoughts on paper. Try to approach writing like a job, and write even if you're not feeling particularly inspired. Remember that good writing is a result of good rewriting, so don't worry if your first draft isn't perfect. You can always go back and polish your work until it shines.

Writing has been a life-long endeavor for me. I write professionally as a lawyer, and I have kept a journal off and on since I could hold a pen. I suppose it was finally time to break through the apprehension of saying whatever it was I had to say and put it down on paper.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was surprised to witness the lack of respect for science by many individuals on the political right. As I observed the anger and frustration among supporters of the "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) movement towards the upcoming midterm elections in 2022, I began to wonder what would happen if the predicted "Red Wave" actually occurred. What if the Republican Party gained supermajorities in state legislatures, allowing them to pass any legislation they wanted without much resistance? This led me to think about "The Last Independence Day," a concept where I took the MAGA wish list, which is primarily inspired by white Christian nationalists and translated it into policy. In all fairness, however, I also castigated the extreme left which I hold equally responsible for putting our nation in the position it is today because neither end of the spectrum listens to the other.
