The idea for A Sea of Spectres began when my mother sent me an article about my ancestors' experiences in the 1758 Acadian expulsion. The focus of the article was on a man, with only brief mention of his wife, Madeleine. And I thought, I can't have that - she deserves to be the heroine of her own story. So I intertwined her narrative with Acadian folklore and two POV descendants, inspired by an 1864 almanac and my research about women's service in contemporary (para)military contexts, respectively.
