Write about something you have an interest in as it will fortify your desire to work when you least feel like it. If you don't have a passion for the topic it makes achieving a goal more difficult. Also know your audience; who will be willing to PAY to read the story,

Personal experiences and in recognition that sharing the history from 50 years ago about racial tensions and the challenges in policing. Sadly, we see the same issues today in Ferguson Mo, NYC, etc, as we tell about I. in "Blood in the Streets." Perhaps the book will help today's communities and police learn for the past.

Establish as much structure as you can stand but make sure not to go 24/7 and never take time away. When bloc hits, stop. Rest, get your mind on something else. Go out, see people, exercise. Allow free time for your brain...sometimes the subconscious awakens when you least expect it and solutions and ideas come to the surface. Talking to a peer can be liberating too when you accept all writers suffer through this.
