The Culture universe. Seems like they've got their shit sorted out for the most part. Give me post-scarcity post-humanity any day.

I'm reading Vernor Vinge's cool sci-fi at the moment and then plan on tackling Brandon Sanderson's massive Stormlight series. Then, who knows, let's take a look at the to-read stack.

There are no mysteries in my life. There was a plot twist once, but it turned out to be cancer and I already wrote a book about it.

Oræl Rides to War has been a long time coming. It's based on two existing story-beginnings I have been writing over the past years and actually decades, and ties into the wider connected history and universe (urverse) I am making. As such, I didn't really get the idea from anywhere - it's been hanging around for so long, it really came from itself.
But I suppose it came from all the movies, books and computer games I've played over the past 20 years. There are no new ideas, after all. Just recombinations of old ones.

Music is a good one. Can't listen to music without wanting to write. And it's probably lame to say, but a good walk always makes my brain start to work. It makes me feel good and gets the ideas flowing (music at the same time is a must). I should walk more often, but I'm stupid and lazy.

Fourth short story in a four-story book based in The Final Fall of Man universe. Ultimately there will be four books, each with four stories.
As well as that, I've made a casual notes-gathering start on a new series, Oræl Rides to War. You can see the prologue on the Hatstand:

Stop talking about writing that novel / novella / short story / series / comic, and just write it!
And hit me up if you want feedback. @St_Edpool on Twitter, if you can handle the heat.

This one's too difficult to answer. Writing is what I am. The best part about being me is me. The best part about being a writer is writing.

Touch wood, I have never really had it. Sometimes I get writer's *blocked*, but I always have something I can write. I've found that writing a blog entry - any blog entry - is also a huge help in getting the writey juices flowing.

Right now, I guess I'm fond of Hemlock and Melganaderna, from the pen of Lucas Thorn. I like my "couples" simple and effective and I think relationship drama is a cheap and tacky way of adding tension to a story. It tells me the author is out of ideas.
In other literature, I'm unable to write anything here but "Keill Randor and Oni Walda". Look it up. So heartbreaking, so beautiful.
