Honestly, I wish I had enough time to write that I would suffer from writer's block. My writer's block is that I don't have as many hours as I would like to complete longer works quickly.
I will say though, if I am stuck on a rhyme, dialogue, chapter, etc. I will make a note and leave it for the day. I'll only to return to it when I have an idea ready. Trust that the idea of how to handle that issue will come to you. Just leave it some space for a bit, keep working on some other section, and one day inspiration will strike.

The best thing about being a writer is the ability to create entire worlds that don't exist. Through symbolism and storytelling, we can bring people to a higher awareness, even thorugh total fantasy, of themselves and the world we live in.
When something touches a reader through a book, it's something they needed to read, hear, or learn. That message, sentence or phrase arrived in their hands exactly when they needed to be exposed to it. It's magical to be part of information sharing.

Write badly. Whenever you have an idea or feel inspired sit down and hash it out without judgements. The ideas need to flow out of you, sometimes quickly, and you can't get in the way of that!
You can always come back later and make hundreds of iterations on your work but first you need to let it happen to get started.

Usually the issues that plague adults are situations we never learned to explore as children. My books are written to be digestible and entertaining for children, but truly speak to world-wide topics we all face.

When my first child was very young, she came home from school in Belgium and told me she only wanted "kids who look like her" to come to her birthday party. I nearly had a heart attack. As an equality-loving non-racist American woman I was shocked, appalled, and basically - I freaked out.
In response I wrote this story starring her favorite toy to help explain the concept all children need to learn when they ask questions about our differences. As a white woman, I felt it was especially important to teach my kids about racism so they grow up to be part of the solution.
