Sure, ask away! When I was younger, I absolutely adored mysteries of any kind (I'm surprised I didn't become more of a mystery writer!) I read Nancy Drew, Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie, Hardy Boys . . .
I started writing when I was older, nearly 30! But I'm glad I waited, because now I feel like I have more to write about. Writing finally became something I couldn't ignore, a calling I had to answer. Now, I can't live without it (my family will tell you I get grumpy when I'm not writing :) )

I love the sense of surprise when I read mysteries. It's funny - in life, I don't much like surprises; I'd rather know what's going to happen next! But in my mysteries, there's nothing like the unexpected.
