"The Desert Queen" a biography of explorer/archaeologist Gertrude Bell. Kate Morton's early novels, "The House at Riverton" and "The Forgotten Garden." I've read all of her more recent novels and adored them. I am learning much about storytelling from her.

I don't believe in writer's block. I believe in burn-out and being jaded by the creative process, even laziness. But "block"? If you still have an imagination, you haven't been blocked. Go write it down.

Don't work in a vacuum. Writing can be a lonely, isolated job. Find a writing group in person or online, a group of people who will encourage and mentor you as you grow in the craft and take those first painful steps into the world of publishing.
