One of my very favorite films is 'North by Northwest' - I was watching it and thinking, 'How would this kind of story play out in the kind of ridiculous, bizarre world we live in now?' 'Swindler & Son' is the result, though naturally it took several detours through current events and my own very personal concerns on the way, as books tend to do.

As Edison is supposed to have said, Success is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Just get up and play. Don't take it too seriously. After you've written a whole lot, go back and see what you've got. If you pay attention, you'll be surprised that the themes will present themselves. And once I see those and know what I'm writing about, I actually do get inspired.

Swindler & Son will be out December 16th and right now, all I'm doing is spreading the word on that.
I really enjoyed this one. It sits at the center of all my books. It's a screwball comedy thriller (I never seem to fit into a preconcieved category). Fraud, money laundering, dementia, kidnapping, the looting of ancient relics, nuclear terrorism and love after marriage (!)--of course, it's a comedy!
After that, I suspect it's Mindbenders 3, the end of the trilogy...maybe...

Just keep working. Listen to everyone's feedback as to where the story flags, loses momentum, gets confusing. Don't listen to anyone's advice in terms of what to do about it. You're the only one who knows where the ship should be going.

Getting up and doing something I love every day.

Knock wood, I haven't had to deal with writer's block in decades. I'm convinced it has to do with your taking yourself too seriously. Not the work - I take the work very seriously. I think when writers take themselves too seriously, they get blocked, because then there's pressure to live up to a standard they haven't made for themselves.
