I'd go to the restaurant in the North End of Boston in John Irving's "Last Night in Twisted River" and have one of the many good meals he describes as having been cooked there. Having grown up in Baltimore and enjoyed the restaurants in Little Italy there, I have an affinity for such places. Now I live in New England, I have had nothing but good experiences in Boston's North End.

"On Sal Mal Lane" by Rue Freeman. Her sister-in-law was a co-worker of mine, but I never got around to reading the book. And "The Last lion" about Winston Churchill. He was a fascinating historical character. Both books involve politics, a lifelong interest of mine.

Penny and Paul in Kauffman and Heart's play "You Can't take it With You". Paul plays with toys and fireworks and refuses to grow up and Penny is totally whimsical. And they are happy!

My wife's family inherited a summer/weekend house far from the Big City on long island, NY. When we would visit the old timers would sometimes talk of the goings on during Prohibition. It gave me the idea for "Buried Gold", a story set in both the Prohibition times and the 1980s when the old timers still remembered.
