Jocelyn Adams Yes, there will be one more starring Asher and Addison, and I'm considering a couple of stand-alone dual POV romances in the Mortal Machine world. One would feature Remy and Sophia, and one would feature Caine and a heroine that shall remain nameless for now. :)
Jocelyn Adams The best part of being an author is meeting people from all over the world I never would have met if not through my writing. Having some random person email me to say that I’ve made them happy for a day or two, is one of two reasons I write. The other is because it makes me happy.
Jocelyn Adams I've always been fascinated with ancient cultures and the wonder if we are alone in the universe. How did people build the pyramids with no modern technology? What the heck is Stonehenge for other than a hot topic for scientists? Why did the Mayan culture really pull a Houdini and disappear? And how can the universe be so ginormous, yet we’re the only life in it? No way. There had to be more than just us. Right?
Being the dreamer I am, my imagination went to work, spinning possible answers to the roughly one gazillion questions in my mind. For years I tried to accept that there may never be any answers, or at least not in my lifetime. And didn't that just suck for someone like me who just needs to know how everything works and why.
It wasn't until last year that I thought about the nights I crawled out the bathroom window onto the roof at the farm where I grew up to stare at the stars, and sometimes the northern lights, and dream about what was out there. With my laptop open, I stared at a blank document and wondered…why couldn't I make my own world to explore the possibilities like my favorite childhood books by Enid Blyton? My other worlds wouldn't be at the top of a tree, but through reality’s veil. All I needed was a sassy, quirky heroine and her gorgeous, reluctant hero to discover what was out there. And what might come through that veil in search of us.
And so, Darkside Sun was born.
Jocelyn Adams Inspiration strikes in odd ways, and often I don’t notice until the story lights up in my mind like a movie. It can be an interaction between two strangers on the sidewalk, the sound of rain on a tin roof, the creek of a floor, or an echo from a dream I can’t remember. It’s awesome, and sometimes debilitating when I’m supposed to be working and there’s an epic battle going on behind my eyes.
Jocelyn Adams I'm madly working on Mortal Machine #3, Forever Dusk. The second and third of trilogies are difficult to write, so it's taking me a while to sort out all of the details. I can't wait to share it with you early next year.
Jocelyn Adams Be honest with yourself about what raises passion in you. Don't write what's popular, but what makes your heart sing. That passion will infuse the words, and no matter the topic, you'll touch your readers in ways you can't imagine. It's the most rewarding thing ever.
Jocelyn Adams There are different kinds of writer's block. Sometimes I just can't see the path to the end of the book. Very recently, I had a looming a deadline that stressed me out to the point I couldn't write for a while. Life's various crises often get in the way, which happens A LOT.
There's really only one cure for all of these psychological road blocks, and that is time and distraction. I step away from the WIP and do something else. Read. Do karate. Go for a long walk. Do anything but force ideas through my head. Usually inspiration will strike again when I'm doing the most mundane things, and I'm off and running again. Works every time.
