A writer can be "inspired" aat any time. Whether it is from a film, another book, a game, a sunset, or a conversation....the list can be almost endless. For me, I'd have to say, that the reason for this is that writing has been ( and hopefully always will be) how I process things in my life.

Being able-via storytelling- to encourage, inspire, educate, illuminate, entertain, and produce thought-provoking discussions. In this way, storytelling not only becomes a commentary of social issues and ideas, but it becomes a catalyst of positive change or perspective. I like what J. Updike says, "I want to write books that unblock the traffic jam in people's minds."

A spin-off from one of the characters found in "They Call Me Blanca." We found out in the epilogue what happens ultimately in this character's life following the events of the story, but I have received so many requests to fill that story in and give her, her own story that I have begun doing just that.

Oh, it would actually have to be a quote from Robin McKinley:
"For anyone who is: just keep writing. Keep reading. If you are meant to be a writer, a storyteller, it’ll work itself out. You just keep feeding it your energy and giving it that crucial chance to work itself out. By reading and writing."

I truly haven't dealt with that yet. My issue is always finding the time to get my ideas down before I lose them. "They Call Me Blanca" was started on an empty Sam's Pizza box in teeny, tiny writing. If it comes to deciding a plot twist ( or what have you) and I'm really stumped, that's where having a close group of sounding boards available to offer their ideas or opinions. You may or may not use their ideas, but they most certainly will spark some for you.

I was having a Facebook conversation with one of my friends from high school that brought up a lot of old issues and memories, not all bad, mind you. Consequently, that same evening one of my middle grade students, from a Wednesday night Bible Study I teach, asked me (very serious conversation), what happens if someone dies and they’ve never heard the gospel. We had just gone over Romans chapter one that says all are ‘without excuse.’ It’s a hard concept to grasp. I told him that our God is bigger than that. If we trust that verse to be true, then we have to know that He’s not gonna let anything get in His way. Because He is both just and loving, somehow someway that person will have the opportunity to either reject or accept Him.
Well, like I said, that’s a hard concept for anyone, especially a teenager, to get their head around. What if someone really had never heard or given the time of day to anyone trying to share with them? What if? So I went to sleep with those two conversations in my head and woke up at three in the morn-ing only to find myself madly typing out the rough draft of Blanca’s story.
