Kimberley Griffiths Little Hi Rebekah, I'm so sorry I missed this question of yours a few months ago . . . The Time of the Fireflies was sure a fun book to write! I hope you got more of my books for Christmas, too. Let me know which ones you got. Thank you, thank you for the sweet message and for giving my books more than 10 out of 10 ratings! I'm honored to know how much you love and enjoy them. That makes my day! :-)
Kimberley Griffiths Little That's a lovely idea, Rebekah! I'm currently working on a lot of other projects so I'm not sure I'll ever get to it, but thank you! I'm so happy you're enjoying the book, too!
Kimberley Griffiths Little Hi Keely, I would love to write more bayou books, but I'm not currently, I'm sorry! I'm working on some other things. But please check out my other books in case you missed any! They're all wonderful - if I do say so myself, haha! Thanks for your note and I'm so happy you have loved the books!
Warmest wishes,
~Kimberley

Kimberley Griffiths Little Hi Eleanor, it takes place on Weno, the island where the international airport is. Have you ever been there? :-) Thanks so much for reading my book!
Kimberley Griffiths Little Hi Eleanor, thank you! I'm so happy to know that you love my books! I'd love to write another book set in the world of the bayous/swamps with characters like Livie, Tara, Shelby Jayne and Larissa, but my editor actually wants me to write a different book at the moment. Fingers crossed it gets published and you'll be able to read it in a couple of years. Meanwhile, you can read my new FORBIDDEN trilogy! All three books are now published and you can read them from start to finish. :-)
Kimberley Griffiths Little Hmm, the mystery about my father's plane crash. Was it really just fog and vertigo that led him and my cousin to crash in the field next to the airport--or was there some sort of mechanical failure? Nothing was determined, but it's a question that has never been fully answered, merely speculated upon.
Kimberley Griffiths Little Hi Lauren, I'm so sorry but at the moment I'm not planning on writing any more books about Tara Doucet in them. But I hope you check out my other book titles here and on Amazon. I have another MG called THE HEALING SPELL that takes place in the same world as Tara Doucet and a YA trilogy called FORBIDDEN that is very exciting and thrilling. Thanks for reading and sending a note! :-)
Kimberley Griffiths Little Hi Kaylee, thanks for your note! I don't have a direct sequel to When the Butterflies Came, but Tara Doucet and some of the other characters also appear in my books, CIRCLE OF SECRETS and THE TIME OF THE FIREFLIES - magical and suspenseful stories! I think you'll like them and hope you get a chance to read them! Happy New Year!
Kimberley Griffiths Little Hi Deborah, yes Asher will be in RETURNED! And I'm so thrilled you're loving the series - thank you!

Kimberley Griffiths Little I've loved that time period and setting for many, many years and have researched a ton, plus I got to travel to Petra (the land of the Edomites) three years ago and go trekking in the desert, too. It was fabulous - and I rode camels! I'm also an amateur belly dancer and have researched that ancient dance for a long time as well. So I combined all those fascinating topics and created Jayden and Kadesh! Thanks so much for reading the series, Gabriella!
Kimberley Griffiths Little Hi Vicky, the answer is YES! There is a 3rd book coming February 2017! Epic battles and a dangerous Goddess of Sariba are featured in RETURNED in about 9 months from now. Stay tuned for a gorgeous cover that will be revealed this summer. Thanks so much for reading! I'm so happy you're enjoying the trilogy.
Kimberley Griffiths Little Hi Lauren, thanks so much for your sweet note, I'm thrilled to know that you're a big fan! I DO love to think up surprising endings or twists. There's a twist at the end of all my books, not only When the Butterflies Came, but Circle of Secrets, The Time of the Fireflies, and The Healing Spell. Hope you get a chance to read them! :-) Good luck with your own writing!
Kimberley Griffiths Little Hi Shellie, thank you SO much for your note! I'm thrilled to know that Forbidden and Banished are in your top 5 favorite books of all time - wow, you really made my day! I'm currently working on revisions of Book 3 with my editor and it will be published February 2017. The writing and editorial process on a book takes a great deal of time and the publisher sends out early copies to reviewers so that adds to the wait time before it's in bookstores/libraries. I have a wonderful series of 4 books with Scholastic that even adults and teachers rave about and have won several awards. Start with THE HEALING SPELL. They take place in the mysterious swamps of Louisiana. They're all listed here on Goodreads if you want to check them out. I also write clean Adult Contemporary Romance under the name, Kimberley Montpetit if you want to check those out while you're waiting for Book 3. :-) Thanks so much for reading, it means the world to me! :-)
Kimberley Griffiths Little Hi Saige, sorry for the slow response, and yes, When the Butterflies Came, Circle of Secrets, The Time of the Fireflies, AND my book The Healing Spell are a sort-of series. Since they all take place in the same town and Miz Mirage Allemand, the traiteur, plays a role in the stories, they're called companion books. So glad you've enjoyed them!

Kimberley Griffiths Little Thanks so much, Ava, I love hearing that. Many ideas converged together for this book. I wanted to write a book about Tara Doucet (she's also in my book CIRCLE OF SECRETS) and show her in the old crumbling plantation house, and I wanted to write a mystery, and have a cool Gramma - and I love butterflies. Put them all together and out came WHEN THE BUTTERFLIES CAME. Course, it takes a lot of brainstorming and planning to put all the pieces together. Oh, and I adore tropical islands, too. :-)
Kimberley Griffiths Little I meant to add to my previous answer that the character of Larissa appears first in Circle of Secrets as a minor character (we see the doll for the first time in that story, too!). I wanted to tell the history of the doll and Larissa in much more detail and that's why I wrote The Time of the Fireflies.

No, I've never lived in an antique store, but I think it would be great fun! I love antiques (and browsing antique stores!) and history and I always wonder about the story behind the furniture or books or knick-nacks; who owned them, and where they came from. I love to wander cemeteries for the same reason. Those were real people with lives and families and jobs and passions and I always want to know how they died. :-)
Kimberley Griffiths Little Hi Amy, how fun to hear that you're using The Time of the Fireflies for your book club - yay!

All 3 of my previous Scholastic books are set in Bayou Bridge, Louisiana, and are about different characters, but there are fun connections between them. The other 3 (The Healing Spell, Circle of Secrets, and When the Butterflies Came) are called magical realism stories (it's become a genre), but Fireflies pushes the fantasy boundaries much more than the others.

It definitely began as realism, but I intended it to fit both because I knew I wanted to show the story of the 5 generations of girls and the doll and its origins. But I didn't want to do a straight time travel story or have Larissa just read diary accounts from the past so I invented time-slipping. :-)

I'm thrilled that you enjoyed the book, and thank you for sharing it with other friends and family. Let me know how Book Blub goes!
