C. Ray Frigard My three book Opus Series was inspired by a disheveled couple I followed into a mall. After getting home I told my wife how a shop keeper had warmly greeted the couple. I hadn't seen their faces and felt a little ashamed I had pre judged them. I mentioned to my wife I wondered who they might be and thought I would write a story about them. She encouraged me to do it. This lead to my Opus Series: The Girl in the Yellow Scarf, The Piano Man and The Opus Cafe.
C. Ray Frigard I get to follow characters around that I like and learn from them.
C. Ray Frigard I watch people. Often without intention I will become curious about who they might be.
C. Ray Frigard Finishing the third book in the Opus Series which I think will end the series, but maybe a minor character might carry the series forward. I do want to see where a couple of them end up.
C. Ray Frigard This will go against what most books and coaches will say but I stuck with my first novel for over four years rewriting it again and again with the help of good editors/critiques rather than writing more stories. I learned how to make that one story the best I could make it. Of course I felt the plot was worth the effort or I would have moved on.
C. Ray Frigard A couple ways. Read the last chapter or two of where I stopped writing to get into the flow. Move to a new location: library, coffee shop or out on the dock. Sometime if I can afford it set up in a hotel out of town. Most often I will listen to some music and just try to get something down not editing as I go.
