I'm just wondering I loved both your books and devoured them in two days are you going to write a second book for shift and are you writing any more books? I ask cause I love your books and I also love to write.
Em Bailey Hi Chloe, sorry about the very slow reply! I don't go on Goodreads very much and I didn't notice your question until today. I'm really glad you enjoyed my books - and thanks for taking the time to let me know. At the moment there are no plans for a follow-up to Shift but who knows, maybe one day! I am currently writing a third YA book which will be published (hopefully) in 2018. Thanks again for your message. Best wishes, Em.

This seemed to be the only way to you so I thought 'May as well'. I am a year 12 student and have decided to use this book as my related text. The Area of Study is Discovery and the part of the rubric I am supposed to evaluate is ‘Discovery and discovering can offer new understandings and renew the perceptions of self and others.’ Would you be able to give a few pointers perhaps to help me?

Hi, I was wondering for your book The Special Ones did Tess and Harry have a future together or did they go their separate ways when Tess went off to Uni?
Em Bailey I'm not sure if I should answer this, because I think it's best when the reader decides for themselves what happens to the characters after the book finishes! But I must admit that I never imagined Harry and Tess would end up together. I think they went through too much for it to work out in the long term. I think they'd stay very close, and share a special kind of friendship that would probably make their future girlfriends/boyfriends a bit jealous, but I don't think they would ever end up together. What do you think?

When did you first start writing books? :)
Em Bailey Hi Victoria, I've been publishing books for over ten years now, but many of my titles are written for younger readers, under my actual name, Meredith Badger. My first YA novel, 'Shift', was published in 2011. Hope that helps. Cheers, Em (Meredith).

Em Bailey Hi Victoria. Thanks for your question. There won't be a sequel to 'Shift' unfortunately, but I released a second YA book earlier this year called 'The Special Ones'. It has different characters but I aimed to give it a similar creepy, unsettling atmosphere. Maybe you'll enjoy that one too! Best wishes, Em

Hi, Shift was a really intriguing book and the concept was very unique to me. What inspired you to write this story?
Em Bailey Hi Brooklyn. The first spark of an idea for Shift cameafter I saw a group of girls shopping together, all wearing identical outfits and with the same hair styles. At one point they all laughed simultaneously and ran their hands through their hair. It was quite strange - almost like they were a single person. It made me think about how when you spend a lot of time with someone your identities can start to merge. I've also always had a bit of a fascination with parasites in the insect world and I started thinking about parallels in the human realm - where one person is using another for their own benefit. Hope that answers your question!
