Write about anything and everything. Don't show it to your friends for criticism, they will lie to you. Never get involved with a 'vanity publisher'. Writing requires practice and patience. If you don't have those attributes, just do it as a hobby. If you want to be a pro, write a lot. Learn, read what others have written, copy some of their styles, but stay true to yourself.
