Hi Brett. Mainly two books: Irish Secrets – German Espionage in Wartime Ireland 1939 - 1945 by Mark M Hull, which showed how badly trained Abwehr spies were and The Double Cross System by J C Masterman which described a high degree of self-delusion among the British Intelligence establishment.

Thanks for the question, Karen. Honestly, I don't know the answer. It's an all-consuming passion; I work hard to improve with each book that I publish, and I have the feeling that I wouldn't last long if I stopped.

That's an easy one! When I was 4, I went to a birthday party where I was kissed by a girl my age or thereabouts. I cried, and everyone thought the whole episode was hilarious. 30 years later, I was interviewing a doctor - a short woman - for a computer system I was contracted to design, when she said: "I know you. When we were 4, I kissed you at a party, and you cried." A few years after that, I met an architect at my brother's house, a tall woman, well known to my brother. She said: "I know you. I kissed you at a birthday party when we were 4. I remember you cried." Two different women with the same specific memory...
