No, not at all. I’ve never read that book but my understanding is that the time period, setting, plot etc, is completely different.

Sometimes there are moments in life when you may need to balance your needs with those of the other people in your life, and where seeking compromise is the best path, if it can be reached. And I do illustrate that in many of my books. But there are also situations where that’s just not possible, and starting over is the only way forward.

Hi Gretchen, You know someone asked me this the other day and I just couldn’t remember. I know I had been listening to a song while I was running one morning and it struck me as very plaintive and raw but what song it was is something I have forgotten. Sorry!

This is a question I get asked frequently. I think most authors do. I was visiting with my friend, Debbie Macomber, this week and someone asked her this question. Her answer? "Two house payments."
Very funny but also true. Writing is how writers pay the rent and put food in the refrigerator. Fortunately, I love what I do so going to work every day (6 days a week) is no hardship for me. Really, anyone who can make a living as an artist is so lucky.
Even so, there are days when I don't feel like going to work, just like everybody else. And, just like everybody else, when that happens I get up and go to work anyway. Even if I'm not feeling especially inspired that day, once I start working, the inspiration comes.

Thank you, Donna! It makes me smile just to read your words!

Hi Eileen! You know, right after I finished it, I thought I might. I loved that book and those characters so much. But when I looked at the cast of secondary characters, I just didn't see anyone who I thought could carry a whole book. Now, that doesn't mean I won't wake up one day and have a Nilson's Bay plot in my head that is just aching to be written; it took me years before I was ready to give Mary Dell Templeton her own book in BETWEEN HEAVEN AND TEXAS, and three years after that before I was ready to write the sequel, my March 29th release, FROM HERE TO HOME. So it is entirely possible that I will write more Nilson's Bay books someday, but I don't have plans to do so right now.

The heroine of FROM HERE TO HOME is Mary Dell Templeton, a true-blue Texan who is one of my very favorite characters. She's got a heart as big as Texas, is completely comfortable in being her own quirky self, and is just a ton of fun to write.
I first introduced her to readers as a cameo character in my Cobbled Court books. In 2013, I gave her a book of her own, BETWEEN HEAVEN AND TEXAS. This new book, FROM HERE TO HOME, tells the story of what happened to Mary Dell 30 years later.

In my experience, the best way to deal with writers block is to bash your way through it. In other words, write. Just write. Even if what you're writing is bad, even if you end up having to delete it all later, the act of writing is the only thing will move us past fear, negative voices in our heads, and creative dry spells into fields of fresh inspiration.
I also believe that, in addition to writing, it is important to feed our creativity in other areas. Listen to good music, visit an art museum, pick up a paintbrush. I engage in a number of secondary artistic pursuits - quilting, painting, piano - for the sheer pleasure of it. I don't play the piano nearly as well as I write, but this and my other secondary art forms help feed and inform my primary art form - writing.
