Christina Kilbourne Hi Chrissie. I had planned it as a trilogy originally and even wrote part of the second d book. But then the publisher stopped publishing YA 😥 and the chances of another publisher picking up a second and third book in a trilogy seemed unlikely so I put away the manuscript. Sorry! I think it was going to be good!
Christina Kilbourne Hi Chrissie. So love this early feedback. Thanks so much for reading! I have been working on a sequel! And I think its going to be just as captivating and perhaps even more surprising! May is my bday month too. Go Taurus?
Christina Kilbourne How can I answer this question with anything other than a heartfelt Thank you! And maybe by saying that age probably helps with both. The world is full of wonderful people but not everyone has the forum to share. I'm humbled by the opportunity to write and to hopefully bring some hope and optimism into the lives of others.
Christina Kilbourne The Alchemist, What Light, Furiously Happy, A Street Cat Named Bob and everthing I haven't yet read of Anne Lamott. How's that for random!?
Christina Kilbourne Gosh I'm stumped. Any suggestions?
Christina Kilbourne I think I find inspiration in different places for different books, characters, places. Mostly I am inspired by a desire to want to spread more tolerance in the world - tolerance for our fellow human beings. I am one of those people who so often sees the world from multiple points of view it's hard to take a strong stand on some issues. So most of my books explore a character or situation about which I feel other people need to come to a new understanding. For instance, in Detached, I want people to be more tolerant and understanding of people with mental illness. It's so easy in today's society to judge and discredit others. But I believe - strongly- that everyone is doing their best with the hand they have been dealt and everyone deserves respect and compassion. Can you tell I work in social services?! A lot of character inspiration comes from people I know or have known. Like an artist creating a mosaic, I take little pieces of this person and that person and create a brand new character. Thanks for asking!
Christina Kilbourne I've not experienced writer's block -not really. There is always something to write. Sometimes I suffer from a lack of motivation or an abundance of distraction!
Christina Kilbourne Creating the world you want and populating it with the people you want to have in it. Also, it's pretty satisfying when someone actually reads your book - and if they like it, that's even better.
Christina Kilbourne Write! Like anything, practice makes perfect. You don't have to write a best seller. Just write anything. And don't be too critical of your work at first. Just keep writing.
Christina Kilbourne I am currently working on a novel about two homeless girls- how they come to be homeless and how they resolve their situations. I love it!
Christina Kilbourne I honestly can't help myself. I like to write and invent and reach people on a meaningful level.
Christina Kilbourne If you mean where did I get my idea for Detached, well, actually, a mother approached me through a publisher asking me to write a book about suicide after she lost her child to suicide. At first I didn't want to write it and then Anna's voice came to me and I couldn't ignore her.
