A Spartan Love is the second book in the Apollo's Men series. The first book, Alexios' Fate, was inspired by a photo.
When I wanted another couple and location, the social dynamic between a Spartan kryptes and helot immediately came to mind.
I know you are thinking "how did that immediately come to mind"?
I guess my mind is just a tad warped, but it may have been the fact that I minored in Classical History and remembered the lecture on just how unusual Sparta was.
The fact that most Spartan men were ripped, professional soldiers and the kryptes more or less the ancient equivalent of Marines didn't hurt either.
So of course, I researched it a bit more to make sure I remembered the facts correctly which resulted in the discovery of even more interesting facts... It's a wonder I ever got it written.

The research!
I'm a history geek so having to research my topic is so much fun that I often have to force myself to get back to writing.
And the dress code is a big plus!

I either indulge in some Corbin Fisher or read a good m/m book. Sometimes I dig into some research on the topic that is giving me trouble and other times I just slog on. Surprisingly the words that I force myself to write aren't as bad as I remembered them when I come back later. I think the trauma of writing those passages colors my impression of them.
And if it's bad enough, I just get on with real life and come back a couple of days later.

I'm working on the third draft of A Tested Love, the second book in the Spartan Love arc of the Apollo's Men series.
A Tested Love continues Andreas and Theron's tale. This book is not centered around Andreas' kleros. Instead, A Tested Love features travel and a heart-stopping scene or two as the pair flees Sparta to save their lives.
Once I finish this round and send it to my beta reader, I'll start the third draft of A Shared Love. Hopefully, both will be ready for submission after the fourth draft.
