Patricia Kay Perhaps following a passion that has been part of my soul since I was in junior high. I have strictly devoted my time to writing, and as once described my Sherman Alexie "being a writer is a lonely life" one which I continue to discipline myself daily. I love feeling, I love taking those feelings and putting them on paper, I love to watch my story-lines develop from a single thought.
Patricia Kay I never have writer's block but I have plenty of times I chose not to write. I typically average 2,000-3,000 words a day. In truth, a little sunshine, mornings to sleep in, and the option of going to a wine-tasting can be a writer's demons.
Patricia Kay Begin by writing letters on paper not email, not social media, write a letter to someone whose would smile from your words. Keep a journal. Challenge yourself to develop one thought, one idea, one visual experience into several sentences. Slowly expand those sentences into a page, another page and another.
Patricia Kay I am working on Passage of Vines. The process is a tiny tedious due to the research required on wine, wine history, and woman's history. This book began as a project in November 2012 as a 50,000 word for National Novel Writers Month.
Patricia Kay I am never without pen or paper. In the car, at the symphony, next to my bed, in my purse. Anytime I get a thought I write it down. I keep files of just an idea, one idea on one page which may or may not develop over time.
Patricia Kay Passage of Vines is based on my love of wine, the amazing history of wine in Washington State and my continued focus as a social awareness writer to introduce readers to the challenges women have faced in the since 1850. All within a fictional read.
