Trent Rivera (the main character in my series) is not based on me. However, many of the places he ends up in are based on places I have lived in or visited in the past. I find that 90% of the time, I am inspired by a simple question: 'What if...?' A lot of the time the resulting answers don't amount to anything, but occasionally, it's like striking gold. I find that a good idea nags at you like a benevolent toothache until you can ignore it no longer and start tapping at the keyboard...

Book 4 of the TRENT RIVERA MYSTERY SERIES. It's working title is FOUR LEAF CLOVER - it sees the protagonist in a down-at-heel British seaside town fighting against a whole host of not very salubrious characters. It's filled with twists and tense moments, and I'm enjoying it hugely :-)

Keep going! Prior to writing, I have been involved in several artistic endeavours. A wise person once told me that we measure someone's success not by how many projects they start, but by how many they finish. I still think that's excellent advice, so the mantra of 'keep going!' rings true.

Putting flesh onto the bones of characters. I especially love it when they seem to reach out to you and lead you into putting them into situations that weren't planned in advance. That and being able to spend all day reading books and telling stories!

I don't tend to suffer too much from writer's block - I tend to have more ideas than time to write them! What I find more difficult is when I've written characters into situations and then can't figure out how to write them out of them. In that case, I'll usually go out for a walk close to the sea and hope that inspiration will strike!
