Darcy Archer I'm a theater gal, so a lot of what I do is watch people around me for emotional beats that sum up a relationship or a pattern of conflict. When I think about a story, I'm always keeping my eyes open for the little zing between people that makes me wonder "If this was M/M and a happy ending was guaranteed, what would it take to get us there. What might happen next?"
Darcy Archer Damar Hamlin's collapse in the middle of Monday Night Football because of commotio cordis. Watching his mid-tackle heart attack on live television was so intense and scary that it immediately got me thinking about the dangers of the game and the crazy gambles NFL players. Not to mention the perfect romantic symbolism of a heart injury...

And then I started playing out the M/M version in my head: what kind of guy would make it to that level? What would that recuperation look like, especially for a player in their 30s? What kind of fears would get in their way? What nice guy might be waiting in their home town to help them back on their feet? And from all that I cooked up a shy, smalltown high school coach who's had a secret crush on "America's Tightest End" since they were teenagers... which is the core of Cross My Heart
Darcy Archer Far as I'm concerned, I'm still aspiring, myself, but I'll give the advice one of my mentors gave me: Always be growing. Write the books you're excited to read and tell stories that move readers.

Word of mouth is king and that means a great book will always outshine, outlast, and outsell any amount of whizz-bang trickery or marketing flimflam you think is worth more than developing as a storyteller.
Darcy Archer Now that I'm under contract, I've started to keep two projects open at a time. When I get stuck on one, I jump over to the other so I can keep things moving.
