It's only rarely about inspiration. Mostly it's about habit. You should always carry a cell phone with Microsoft Word on it, though, for those occasions when inspiration does rear its head.

Having spent most of my careers working for newspapers, writer's block is something I could never afford. Get writer's block at a newspaper and you're out of a job. Same for magazines, which have much longer deadlines, but deadlines nonetheless. These days, though I do sometimes have relatively long dormant periods between projects, I don't call it writer's block. That is a term invented and maintained by people obsessed with writing to the extent that when they're not doing it they feel wasted. I am no longer thus obsessed.
