Samantha Grace I've talked about two experiences in New Orleans that gave me the initial idea, but the idea for Helena's background came from a biography I saw at the bookstore. I wish I had bought the book or written down the title, but I was too appalled by the summary to think of it at the time. In the early 1800s, an aristocrat boasted he could create the perfect, obedient wife when his search for a wife didn't go as he'd planned. He took a couple of girls off the streets in London and held them at his Scotland estate to undergo their "training". One of his methods involved shooting at their feet with the expectation they should remain still! Fortunately, I believe both girls escaped. Helena's situation isn't nearly as off-the-wall when compared to this real life story, but it is similar in that she was taken to Scotland and trained to be a lady so she would be a suitable wife for Lord Prestwick.
