Leaving Fatherland has scenes inspired by real events in the life of my Uncle Werner, a German academic who returned home from his studies at Bates College, Maine, in the U.S to join the Luftwaffe. He was shot down in North Africa and became a POW in Lincolnshire, England after the war.
