Hi Mark. I feel for you. We have only so much creative juice available every day. I was lucky, I guess. I was between jobs when I started writing. The full story is here. https://www.robertpfrench.com/about/ For the first years of writing I was juggling work with writing but by that time, I knew I wanted to make the transition to writing. Writing is long, hard, oftern frustrating work but there is nothing like the feeling of finishing a book. Very best wishes and stay safe.

Write at every chance you get. Observe the world and the people in it because you can write places, incidents and people into your books. Many of the people in my first book, Junkie, were based on strangers whom I had met or observed.
