Cathelina Duvert My mother had Alzheimer's. Ten years ago, she left home unnoticed. Missing for 24 hours, family helped us search. She was found in the next town, confused but well. We still don't know what happened.
Cathelina Duvert Tiana sat working at her desk in her quiet studio apartment, writing about how much she enjoyed her solitary life. The door suddenly flew open, and in the darkened hallway stood a large stranger whose facial expression was as menacing as the massive blade that he held in his blood-covered hand.
Cathelina Duvert I distract myself with movies, solitaire games on my phone, Instagram and Facebook. I listen to podcasts that shed the right light on what I'm struggling with and eventually, I'm able to work through my writer's block.
Cathelina Duvert The best thing about being a writer is being able to create something beautiful out of a small idea. I find it fascinating to take mere letters of the alphabet and string them together in such a way that they become something that people can feel moved by. I love the fact that I can create. I can bring something out into the world that wasn't there before all from my imagination.
Cathelina Duvert Be careful about listening to all the chatter. This is also a reminder to myself. There are so many people all over social media offering advice and suggestions about what you should and should not do as a writer. If you're like me, you'll easily become overwhelmed and find yourself unable to move forward. Find a source that you trust and listen only to that source.
Cathelina Duvert I put my second novel on hold as I tend to all the moving pieces of self-publishing and promoting my forthcoming book!
Cathelina Duvert Sometimes I get inspired by an intriguing conversation or by a book I've read. They spark ideas that never leave me until I release them through writing about them. I love it when that happens.
Cathelina Duvert My most recent book, The Box, started out as my trying to understand the depression that I was going through. I gave all my depressive feelings to my main character Mia Hill to see what she would do. As I learned more about my depression, I found more ways to challenge her. I feel like one of the things that has helped me deal with depression through the years was writing about it through Mia.
