Ideas come to me while I'm sleeping or in the early morning hours when it's quiet. The idea for Love to the Rescue began with a desire to write a story about my favorite music and a love that can develop from a shared like for a specific music genre. In the plotting stage, the story morphed into Nicole and Cameron's story. The characters really do tell you what they want you to write.

I'm a plotter. When an idea enters my head, I write it down and begin plotting the story, scene by scene before I begin writing. Having a plan prior to beginning drafting a story gives flexibility to allow my characters to guide the story which I believe makes for a more enriching reading experience. Aspiring writers should identify what works best for their writing style. Create a schedule for writing, even if on a given day you only write twenty words. Those twenty words get you closer to your ultimate goal. Find fellow authors to be accountable to and encourage each other. Give yourself grace.

The best thing about being a romance writer is putting my ideas onto a page, crafting a storyline and creating a happy ever after for my characters. I'm a hopeless romantic and enjoy swoon worthy characters and all the scenarios that bring couples together. I get to exercise my vivid imagination and put stories onto a page I hope my readers enjoy.

Listening to music creates a space for me to relax and free my mind of stress. Old school hip hop always lands me in a happy place, allowing me to generate ideas and story lines. Reading works of other romance authors, as well as watching a good rom-com helps me with writer's block.
