Marsha Cornelius The garbage disposal sounds funny, like there's a tennis ball bouncing around in there. I reach my hand in to see what's happening and pull out a ball--an eyeball.
Marsha Cornelius I might like to live in Ann McCaffrey's world and be a dragonrider of Pern. If you're into science fiction, and you've never read the series, I highly recommend it.
Marsha Cornelius This mystery didn't happen to me personally, but it did take place in my neighborhood and involved my newspaper carrier. A subdivision near me has a retention pond out front with fountains. The paper carrier drove her car into the small pond early one morning. She called 911 but by the time they got there, she had drowned. What baffled everyone was why she didn't get out of the car and wade to shore. I'm using this incident in my next cozy mystery, In To The Pond, a sequel to my first cozy, Up To No Good.
Marsha Cornelius One of my favorite fictional couples is Henry and Clare from The Time Traveler's Wife. If you've read the book, you totally understand how devoted they were to each other throughout an impossible situation. If you haven't read it, I suggest you do.
And since I can't stop at just one, I'd also suggest The Ribs and Thigh Bones of Desire because the relationship between David and Molly is unusual but very sweet.
Marsha Cornelius Hopefully it will be released through Kindle Press in early November (2015). Have you seen my campaign on Kindle Scout? https://kindlescout.amazon.com/p/1L6Q...
If you have already nominated It's a Boy, I want to thank you. Perhaps you can tell your friends about this contest too! If I'm selected, you'll get a FREE copy.
And thanks for your continued support of my writing!!
Marsha Cornelius Don't expect to make money. I know that sounds harsh, and a few of you (a very few) may make enough money to afford cigarettes, but writing isn't profitable.
Consider all of the artists you see selling their paintings at flea markets and craft shows. Their dream was to be a master artist.
Do you know someone in a band? How many people out there play music at block parties and pizza parlors. Don't you imagine they'd love to make it big?
It's the same with writers. Millions of people are trying their hand at writing. Few will succeed.
Marsha Cornelius I have several strategies for writer's block.
1. I can either write today, or clean the bathrooms.
2. I identify the scene or dialogue that has me stumped. Then I stick a small notebook in my pocket and take a walk. I can't go home until I have resolved the issue.
3. I take a long drive, and I either turn off the radio, or tune XM to the spa station so I'm not distracted by the music.
4. I bribe myself with candy or cookies.
Marsha Cornelius I work my own hours, and I get to wear my pajamas!
Marsha Cornelius I take long walks--without my phone or iPod. I just let my brain blather on, and usually that gets the inspiration flowing.
Marsha Cornelius It seems like every year, we become more and more dependent on drugs to 'regulate' our lives. We want a pill to help us lose weight, to concentrate at work or school, to have a more positive attitude. I can't help but wonder where it will all end. My novel Habits Kick Back deals with this new kind of 'addiction'.
