Ask the Author: Annie Adams
“I love answering questions! It's probably narcissistic, but there it is. Wanna know about my inspiration for a character? How about for a place in the book? I'm an open book (gah!) so ask away.”

Hi! The last episode is still in progress. I don’t have an exact date, but I hope that it will be finished soon. Thanks for your question! :)

I don't have one favorite, but lately I've really loved watching re-runs of Remington Steele and one of my favorite couples, Remington and Laura Holt. They solve mysteries together, he's charming, she's smart, they have great adventures together. Both of them also have flaws, and yet they are still attracted to each other.

Aww, thanks, Susan. Great suggestion. I love reading about small towns in my favorite books. You'll definitely read about some of the landmarks and businesses of Hillside in the next book!

What really works for me is hanging around or listening to other writers or reading a book that I just fall in love with. After my chapter meetings or conferences with Utah Romance Writers of America or with the national RWA convention I want to rush home and write. Sometimes when I need to get working on my current WIP and I'm just not feeling it, I will search for author's names on Youtube and listen to them talk about writing or the latest release and it gets the writing blood flowing again.

I'm working on a Christmas novella, which is trying to turn into a Christmas novel! It will pick up where we left off from Deadly Arrangements. This one may be a little different, as there won't be a murder mystery involved this time.

Pretty much the entire process can feel as if I have writer's block the whole time. There are usually some transcendent moments where the words fly out of my fingers through the keyboard, but those are few and far between. Usually it's the slog of writing even though I have no ideas. A good writer friend of mine has told me to sit down with the intent to write absolutely worthless garbage. Sometimes I will even call her and ask permission to write crap. Usually, after a few sentences the ideas will come. It's often about turning off that internal editor, which is a very difficult proposition. The editor really enjoys her work. It's difficult to get her to take a vacation.

(view spoiler)[Deadly Arrangements is set in the flower shop of course, but also a large part of it is set in a bird refuge in the marshlands surrounding the Great Salt Lake. All of the books in The Flower Shop Mystery series will have some form of an environmental element, like the switch grass in The Final Arrangement (which, incidentally is a shout out to a dear friend who had a switch grass farm. We lost him to cancer at a very early age.) In Deadly Arrangements, K.C. and her fiance are avid birders and they want to get married in their favorite place, the bird refuge. I got the idea for that setting as I took a walk around the boardwalk at one of the visitor sights to the Farmington Bay Wildlife preserve. The Great Salt Lake marshland is one of the major rest stops for migratory birds in North America. It's so beautiful and yet, when my husband and I split up (he was running and I was not!) I felt eerily alone in the tall grasses. I knew that it would be a great place for a murder (yikes), so I placed one in my book. (hide spoiler)]
