K.J. Joyner When I was younger, I would have given anything to go to Pern. I'm old and would hate to face the threat of Thread now. Also I wouldn't want to be stuck in any one place.

How neat it would be if I could just travel from world to world. I'd probably be like a tourist; popping in, going oooh aaah, taking photos, and popping out again before the feds get me.
K.J. Joyner I beg of you: know what you write. Write what you know. And if you don't know it, do some research!

There are some aspiring authors who go so far as to make up their own worlds with their own rules, thinking they can bypass this one solid guideline and ultimately they still have to learn and know... something, be it which way is starboard to the flight ratio of a coconut laden swallow and what breed. You're not going to escape it, so you might as well get familiar with how to do your research and be comfortable with broadening your horizons. A poorly written book is often one that has two dimensional characters and two dimensional worlds. Learning things beyond your comfort zone fixes that.
K.J. Joyner I actually don't make summer reading lists. I pick up a book and I try to finish it. In the old days that meant I used to finish a lot of books. These days not so much.
K.J. Joyner Everything is a mystery, and everything can be a plot. It's hard for me to pick out any one single event or unanswered question in my own life! The trick is to ask yourself "what if" and go from there.
K.J. Joyner For me, I guess because I was always prone to daydreaming about random things, I'm rarely inspired by outside elements like an object or an event. With The Heavenly Bride, it was like the story needed to be told one day and I spent months writing the script. It was almost as if the main character was narrating it to me. That's just how I roll.
K.J. Joyner I pound my head against it until my eyes fall out of their sockets and roll on the floor, leaving bloody streaks for all to see.
K.J. Joyner I'm a fool, but I have more than one thing in my basket. My biggest project, though, is The Heavenly Bride which can be read mostly for free on the web.
K.J. Joyner The Secret of Nymph came and went, and I didn't get to go see it. Thank goodness for VCRs. When I finally got to see it, I loved it so much I was inspired to write my own stories. I wrote about an entire world of mice, rats, and cats. It was great and I may recreate it someday.
