Uh...I am too verbose to get it done in two sentences. :)

How my father came to be in possession of a German officer's pistol when he came back from World War II. He was never in combat, didn't gamble, didn't trade. And whenever I asked him about it, he shrugged it off or changed the subject. Just how did he get it?

The absolute best thing is hearing that someone liked or enjoyed my work, or even better, learned something from it.

I have always had a desire to see my words in print, even long before I actually started writing. That's the only inspiration that I need. I think it's knowing that somewhere down the line I'll be creating something, whether it be historical nonfiction as with Righteous Might, or something totally fictional (like the murder mystery I am tossing around in my head right now). I don't try to fight it. I'm not operating on a deadline so I have the luxury of putting my pen down (OK, walking away from the computer) for a while and emptying my head. Then I try to come up with one idea to my text, no matter how small, to get started again.

When I was dating my future wife, I saw a picture of her father in his Army uniform and under the picture were his medals including bronze star and purple heart. I asked him about his combat experiences and that set me on a course of learning about the Pacific war. As his story unfolded, I knew it was a story that had to be told.
