Thank you replying. 😊 I haven’t had the pleasure of reading your books yet because I just discovered your work. I came across Un Matrimonio Perfecto which caught my eye. What will be the name of that book that will be available in 2 weeks? And what is the English title to El Aviso?
Paul Pen "Un matrimonio perfecto" has become Under the Water in English. And "El aviso" is going to be The Warning. Hope you like them!

I just finished Desert Flowers after reading The Light of the Fireflies and have pre-ordered your next book. These books are AMAZING! It has been quite awhile since I have found an author whose books I cant put down and can't wait for the next one. Desert Flowers was truly an amazing story, and a look into a world from another view. I was so moved by it. Are there more plans to translate your other works?
Paul Pen Thank you for your words, Amber! Messages like yours are the most satisfying for a writer. And yes, there are more translations on the way. Apart from the upcoming new novel UNDER THE WATER, my debut novel THE WARNING (which dates back to 2011) will be available in English for the first time. I'll keep my networks updated about the exact release dates of these works.

Hola Paul :) En "El brillo de las luciérnagas" y "La casa entre los cactus" lo vivimos todo en un mismo espacio y/o núcleo familiar, lo que crea un micromundo quizás un poco opresivo pero que personalmente me atrae muchísimo en una historia. ¿Nos pasará lo mismo con "Un matrimonio perfecto"? Un abrazo y como siempre, gracias! :)

Are there more translations to English in the works? I just finished The Light of the Fireflies, and will begin Desert Flowers tonight, but would love to read everything you have written. The Light of the Fireflies is the best book I have read in a long time. I can't stop thinking about it.

Hello! I have read both The Light of the Fireflies and Desert Flowers over the past two days, and I thought they were both excellent! I am working on writing reviews for them both and will get those posted soon. I wanted to know if you have any recommendations for similar books?
Paul Pen Hello, Nic. Great to hear you've enjoyed my novels, looking forward to read your reviews. Similar books to "Fireflies" I can recommend: "The Collector" by John Fowles, "Room" by Emma Donoghue or "Geek Love" by Katherine Dunn. Similar to "Desert Flowers" I'd say "The Virgin Suicides" by Jeffrey Eugenides, "Eye of the Needle" by Ken Follet or "The Beguiled" by Thomas Cullinan, which I haven't actually read but I have seen the Sofia Coppola's movie adaptation recently and has some topics in common.

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?
Paul Pen Despite writing mystery novels I'm not that mysterious myself, really. Maybe I'd have to use that time a friend and I, when we were kids, saw a kangaroo skipping on our backyard... in Spain. To this day I don't know if that really happened. Though I assume it didn't, I have a crystal clear memory of it.

Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?
Paul Pen I've just finished reading 'The Light between the Oceans', so right now I'm emotionally attached to Tom and Isabel. A little more classic couples that come to my mind are Callie and the Obscure Object from Eugenides' 'Middlesex', who had a really interesting and peculiar relationship to read about, and the parents from Katherine Dunn's 'Geek Love', who intentionally messed up with the wife's pregnancies to obtain deformed children to use as freak show acts. That really is a unique couple in love, isn't it?

Hola Paul! Como ya te comenté, "El brillo de las luciérnagas" me encantó. Hoy he tenido la necesidad de darte las gracias por la maravillosa novela... pues recientemente le he estado leyendo yo a mi madre, y ver su cara a medida que yo leía y la historia avanzaba... ha sido muy especial. Dicho esto, aquí va mi pregunta: Tendremos las "13 Historias" pronto en papel? Un saludo y gracias! :)

Paul Pen Thank your for your question, Dramapuppy. I prefer not to tell the readers what they have to think about my characters, I just show what happened in the story, without my moral intervention. For me, my stories are stories that really happened, and my characters are real people capable of doing horrible and beautiful things at the same time, like real people do. As it happens in real life, not always do the good ones get a happy ending, nor do the bad ones get punished. Also, who is good?, who is bad?, who has the power to judge?, what punishment is enough punishment for a certain action?

El Brillo de las Luciérnagas fue un ligro que no pude leer, me atrapó desde la primera página, sin duda es una historia muy original que me encantó y siempre estoy recomendando, mi pregunta es la siguiente ¿Cuál fu su inspiración y cómo llegó a construir esta historia tan genial?

La historia partió de algunos casos reales de largos secuestros en sótanos. Leí una noticia de un niño de cinco años que salió al mundo exterior tras haber pasado su vida entera en un sótano y la imagen me impactó de tal manera que quise escribir una historia que culminara con un momento parecido. Así nació 'El brillo de las luciérnagas'.

"El brillo de las luciérnagas" forma parte de ese conjunto de libros que no se pueden sacar de la mente. Lo leí hace dos años, y afirmo que se trata de uno de los mejores libros que he leído. ¡Impresionante! Ahora bien, mi pregunta es sencilla: ¿Tendremos la posibilidad de leer otro libro? Y seguiría con: ¿Cuándo sería? :)

Hola Paul, el "Brillo de las luciérnagas" me enamoró. No sólo por el suspense (al que soy adicta tanto el literatura como cine), sino por el mensaje latente, ese que mueve algo por dentro. Tengo curiosidad por saber algún libro y película favoritos. Como empiezas crear una historia? Tu primera idea es un personaje y desarrollas a partir de aquí, un espacio, el argumento a grandes rasgos, el final incluso... Gracias
Paul Pen Hola, Melania. Gracias por tus palabras hacia mi novela. Libros favoritos: son muchos, se me ocurren 'Boy's Life' de Robert McCammon o 'Middlesex' de Jeffrey Eugenides. Películas favoritas: 'Carrie', 'Cuenta conmigo', 'Regreso al futuro'. Empiezo a crear las historias, en general, en base a un momento. Una escena particular a partir de la cual armo todo lo demás.

Will your book, "El aviso" be translated into English in the near future?

Thank your for your interest in my writing. As of today, 'El aviso' is available in Spanish, German and Italian. We're working on making it available for the English market so I hope there's a translation coming soon. I'll update my profiles with any news on this matter.
