Barbara Longley There truly isn't anything mysterious about my own life. However, when I hear a story about someone else's life, my mind spins with possible mysteries.
Barbara Longley I don't really make seasonal lists for reading. If a book catches my eye, I'll read it. Lately I've been reading a lot of epic fantasies, and I've also been rereading some old favorites.
Barbara Longley Wow! You and me, sister! We did good by having our spots checked. :0) For a few weeks after, I was sure every little freckle might be melanoma. I go back next month for my first 4 month check. Thanks so much for letting me know, Caryn! Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I'm not on Goodreads very often.
Barbara Longley I didn't get to listen to or choose any of the narrators for my traditionally published books. Self-published authors can do that. When it comes to Tangled in Time, I listened to the book after the audible version, and I liked the narrator. We all have different tastes, I guess. :-)
Barbara Longley Hi, George! Sorry it has taken me so long to answer your question, but I just saw it today. (My bad.) My interest began with what I was reading in the media about what our troops deal with while reintegrating into civilian life after deployment, the increase in those individuals who must cope with PTSD, which then led to lots of research on the issue. Then, I saw an article in the news about a caravan of American troops accompanying Iraqi officials to Mosul. They hit an IED and five troops died. That's where my first book began, only I changed the IED to a suicide bomber.
Barbara Longley Yep. I am currently working on WHAT MATTERS MOST, Josey's story. I don't have a release date yet, but I will post it on my website when I do. Thanks for asking!
Barbara Longley My advice to you is to become a storyteller first, and let the rest go. In other words, write because you love to, and because you can't help yourself. Keep working on your craft and let the rest go. Most of us wrote for years before we got published. I wrote back then because I simply love to write, and I keep writing in the crazy, turned-upside-down industry for the same reason. That has to be your driving force—the innate need to tell stories.
Barbara Longley I am working on WHAT MATTERS MOST, Josey's story right now. I'm about 40K words into the story. Thank you for asking!
Barbara Longley Someday maybe. I have obligations for other stories at present, and I haven't come up Tieren's story yet.
Barbara Longley I'd have to say regency England, ancient Ireland, or medieval Scotland.
Barbara Longley George Bailey and Mary Hatch in IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, because it's such a beautiful love story. Mary knew from the beginning that George was the man for her. She saw the wonderful man he was within, and her love was constant. George came to their relationship kicking and screaming. He had dreams he never got to realize. He didn't see the "dream" that was right before him until a crisis. IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE IS such an inspirational story about the power of doing good, the power of love and the importance of community.
Barbara Longley Yes! I'm writing Sky Elizabeth's story now, and then I hope to do one for Tieren. Thanks for asking!
Barbara Longley Just about everything can become an inspiration. An article on the news, overheard conversations, song lyrics, things I read about myths and legends. I think a lot of storytellers share the same characteristics. We can turn anything into a story. For instance, I recently travelled to Ireland. The night before my daughter and I were to fly home, I was pick-pocketed. I lost my passport, credit cards, cash and driver's license. We had to stay a few extra days so that I could get an emergency passport to fly home. Now, in my mind, I've already turned that disaster into a contemporary romantic comedy in my head . . . What can I say? Stories just happen for me.
Barbara Longley I deal with writer's block several ways. I brainstorm with other writers, because that can really get your creative juices flowing. I write anyway, whether I know where the story is going or not. Often the crap I write while blocked leads me past the brain freeze. I also take a break and do something else that is also creative. This often gets the flow moving again.
Barbara Longley Working from home in my jammies while drinking copious amounts of coffee.
Barbara Longley Don't. Quit. Look at obstacles as stepping stones leading you to where you want to go. DO. NOT. QUIT.
Barbara Longley I am currently getting a submission ready to hand over to my agent. It will be a fun, flirty, funny contemporary trilogy.
Barbara Longley My most recent book is the second in the Loch Moigh series, THE HIGHLANDER'S BARGAIN, and the idea came to me as I wrote the first book. Robley of Clan MacKintosh is just such a loveable man, and so positive and optimistic. He's one of those very physical guys who craves adventure, so I gave him one.
