I would go through the bone clocks to help Holly defeat the devils in The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell. She is one of my favorite heroines.

I am marketing my short story collection, waiting to see if my novell will be accepted by the agent reading it now, doing some nonfiction research on linguistics and politics and writing "around" the next subject I want to write about.

The only way to write better is to write consistently. Write about what you love. Make yourself write even when you do not feel like it.

The ability to drop into other people's lives for a bit as I write about them. I also enjoy the research aspect. I base a lot of my writing on real world events, so I do research to make sure my writing is accurate.

I give myself permission to write badly. Next, I sit down and write with a time limit to put words on the page. I also will read to unblock myself.

I am inspired by world events. I am an avid listener of Democracy Now!, This American Life, and other podcasts. I pull from the real world often. I was an actor before I became a writer. I started writing in October 2010, taking classes at the Writers Studio, NYC. Part of how they teach involves the writer having an emotional connection to his/her material. My acting training comes in handy when I want to instigate an emotional connection in order to start writing. It does make writing in public places a bit embarrassing! My stories may not be "true" but there is an emotional truth. I also steal alot from real life.

My most recent book is a novel based on the short story "Moxie" from Girl, World. That story came from an argument with my ex partner who told me I had lost my looks due to drinking. I have always felt "not pretty" and am fascinated with how women are marginalized as they age.
