Ashleigh Stevens This is a very good question. Unfortunately, there are no real mysteries in my life. However, every so often I see things and think, there's a good idea.

For example, yesterday I saw four teens climbing along the rocks to get to a difficult-to-reach spot beside a pond under a railroad bridge. There are so many things I could do with that. Was it some type of club initiation ritual? Were they going fishing? Would somethingnwash up along the shore? Would something reach out ofthe lake to grab them?

The gears are already turning. Who knows? I may get a story out of this someday.
Ashleigh Stevens My inspiration comes from many places. Some stories are inspired by dreams. Some from life experiences. Sometimes I just fet a random thought and say, "How can I turn that into a story?"
Ashleigh Stevens Many, many things.
This week, I am preparing for NaNoWriMo by outlining a series of middle grade novels I will be drafting next month. I am also reading through beta feedback for my project for the RedditSerials publishing derby, drafting new material for the Boarding School Blues and Confessions of a Teenage Celebrity serials (I'm working on book 6), and marketing Camp Piquaqua & Mooncrossed.
Ashleigh Stevens Keep writing. Even if you don't like what you are working on, keep going. First drafts are meant to get to story down. They don't have to be perfect. The most important part to writing is finishing that first draft. Once it's done, you will have this overwhelming sense of accomplishment and is what keeps you moving on to the next story.
Ashleigh Stevens I have always had an incredible amount of stories playing out in my head. The best part about being a writer is sharing these stories with others.
Ashleigh Stevens When I have writer's block, I take it as a sign that I need to step away from the story. Sometimes, I try to picture a scene in my head to see what comes next. Sometimes, I rewrite the scene from another perspective. (That's how Confessions of a Teenage Celebrity was born.) Other times, I go on a reading & streaming binge until inspiration hits.
Ashleigh Stevens Camp Piquaqua was inspired by the real-life tornadoes that tore through my state several years ago. There is a specific tree described that I saw when driving around about a week afterward the event.
