Philip Keith I'm sorry, the publisher decided against including the two or three that I had available. I recall that there is one map of the general War Zone C area, and the book does have some very detailed descriptions of the actual FSB Illingworth compound, but no diagrams or maps.
Philip Keith America decided it had had enough of "politics as usual." So, we elected Donald Trump.
Philip Keith Looking to read "Dodge City," by Tom Clavin and Colson Whitehead's "Underground Railroad."
Philip Keith I don't believe that Truman ever expected MacArthur to essentially disobey orders (in Korea). Egotist and a prima donna, yes, but outright disobedience, no. As far as MacArthur's performance in Japan, none of the other in-theater great leaders wanted the job: Not Nimitz, Halsey, Spruance, or any of the 4-star Army or Marine generals. MacArthur got it by default and surprised everyone with what a masterful job he did. It was his greatest achievement. That's how he got the Korea command, initially.
Philip Keith I haven't had this problem and I don't think I ever will: part of it is being disciplined about writing and doing it every day. The other part is that I started writing full-time only after long careers in business and teaching. I've got a lot of catching up to do!
Philip Keith This will be different for everyone; but, for me its about finally doing what I love and having the freedom to do it every day.
Philip Keith Write what you know, at least to start with, until you get a good book deal and a following. Write every day (see above). Learn to write superior book proposals: good proposals get you good agents and great book deals.
Philip Keith I just finished a book for Zenith Press called "Stay the Rising Sun." It's the story of the USS Lexington, the Navy's first true aircraft carrier, and the WW II Battle of the Coral Sea (where, sadly, "Lady Lex" was lost). Should be out by March of 2015. Next I'm turning my attention to the "Wild West" and a story about a forgotten American hero who, in his day, was truly larger than life. More later as the book develops...
Philip Keith The best advice I ever got about writing was: "If you're going to be a successful writer, you have to write every day." That came from my friend Nelson DeMille, who's a pretty damn good writer--and a prolific one. It doesn't matter if you write a couple of sentences or 5,000 words--by writing every day, you get in a good groove, good habits, and you never have to worry about getting "inspired."
Philip Keith "Fire Base Illingworth" rose out of the interviews I conducted with the men I wrote about in "Blackhorse Riders." As I was writing about one ("Blackhorse") they kept telling me, "If you think that was a gutsy battle, you should write about the scrape we got into just a week after that!" So, I did!
