My writing stalls most when I succumb to doubt. My therapist suggested an exercise where before I sit down to write for the day, I brain dump in my journal for a fixed amount of time (5 min, 10 min, etc.) and write down all the ugly thoughts swirling through my head. It sounds strange but it works for me. I clear the decks and warm up the writing muscles all in one fell swoop. Also, did you catch it? Therapy definitely helps ;)

I dreamed of writing for as long as I can remember, unfortunately I didn't actually start my first novel until my mid thirties, so my biggest advice is just to get started, you don't need to know everything about publishing or querying, you just have to start getting words down on the page. There are so many amazing writing resources and communities online. Also, attend local author events where you live, often you'll find a lot of writers in attendance at them and the speakers at these events usually discuss the craft of writing. Be curious, be humble, and work through the self doubt!

I create Pinterest pages and playlists for my WIPs, and if I need a little nudge to get words flowing, I'll scroll through the pinned images or listen to the playlist while driving or cleaning.
