Camille Sharp It depends on the project. Sometimes I do something else and come back to it later.
Other times, and this is surprisingly effective, I just start writing something anyway. Even if its not the path I sort of know I want to take with a scene. Just get the words flowing, you'd be surprised where it takes you. And you can always redo it if it doesn't work out.
Camille Sharp Don't give up. Do it because you love it. And, honestly, invest in a professional edit. At least once, try to get a developmental edit. I know it's an expense, but I can't tell you what a difference it made to the book. Things that I missed because our brains fill in gaps for us, character advice, plot development. It was incredible and so worth it.
The benefits go beyond that first book because you learn so much and take those lessons with you to every book you write after that.
Camille Sharp At the moment, I'm focusing on the final edits for book 3 in the Maiden Harlow Mysteries series - Pretty Little Princesses. It delves into Maiden's high school days as her class reunion comes up. As you might expect, things take a murderous turn.
