Thank you so much for coming to Longfellow Middle School. The kids adored you! Several of our quiet kids have started writing short stories just for fun, and now I'm having to take their cell phones because they want to read the Grimm Fairy Tales in class. Question from the kids: do you have any more stories in mind that retell fairy tales?

Nikki Loftin Okay, this is proof: I'm officially a Bad Influence on kids. haha I am delighted your students were inspired both to write their own stories, and to break the rules in such a delightfully subversive way. While I WISH I were working on another Grimm retelling, I'm actually finishing a manuscript about a murderous ghost, set in a neighborhood reminiscent of Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Sunnydale. I want it to be a series, but we'll see... If your students have any great ideas for fairy tales ripe for the stealing, though, I'd love to hear them! I'm always up for a little literary larceny. And alliteration.
I've got some ideas that involve the Grimm Brothers' The Juniper Tree, and maybe Andersen's The Little Match Girl (SAD), and possibly The Pied Piper... but I'm ALL ears.
