Rex Jameson I have been way behind on my reading, but this summer, I've read some things that I should have started up to a decade ago. So far (2022), those books include The Kingkiller Series by Rothfuss and the Stormlight Archives by Sanderson. I still haven't finished the Stormlight Archives yet. It's 1200+ pages per book. Give me a break!
Rex Jameson I gave a short workshop on one method of overcoming this back in 2017. It might be useful to you. If not, sorry. Also, I can't remember ever having writer's block. I'm either in the mood to write, or I'm distracted by something else. This may include reading, programming, creating videos (e.g., tiktok), or a variety of other tasks that my brain will prioritize.

Rex Jameson For me, I love layering complex stories in a way that is just as good, if not better, the second time a reader revisits a series. I'm a plotter, and I like to plan ahead major events. Nothing feels better than planning out a 7 book series arc and having buildup and breadcrumbs along the way that take 5 books for readers to get the payoff. If you can surprise readers, great, but I feel it is just as rewarding for readers to feel immersed in a complex story that makes them think about a plot or character long after the book is closed and finished (whatever that means!)
Rex Jameson Sit down and write. Schedule time away from social media. Make time. Read authors in your genre and learn from them. Most popular authors in your genre are popular for a reason. Find out what that reason is!
